Frequently Asked Questions
What are the Laser pre treatment care instructions?
- Shave the area to be treated one day before your appointment. This will prevent singeing or burning of hair and skin.
- Avoid direct sunlight 3 to 5 days prior to treatment day.
- On the day of your appointment, avoid makeup, lotions and creams, and deodorant.
- No other ways of hair removal in the same area 4 weeks prior to treatment days including waxing and threading.
- Do not use spray tan or self tanning products within two weeks before your session.
- Avoid alcohol one day before treatment.
What are the post treatment care instructions?
- After your session, redness or mild skin irritation is normal. This will most likely resolve itself within a few days.
- A sunburn-like feeling in the treated area is normal. Using an anti-itch cream that contains 1% cortisone can provide relief.
- Avoid lotions, creams, makeup and other products on the treated area for at least 24 hours.
- After 5 days, you may begin to exfoliate your skin. This will speed up the process of hair shedding and will allow your skin to feel smoother for a longer period of time.
- Avoid strong, direct sunlight for at least 6 to 8 weeks after. Sunscreen (spf 30 or higher) is strongly recommended. Exposure to sunlight in the weeks following the treatment could lead dark or light spots.
- For best result, avoid other types of hair removal in the same area (waxing, threading, tweezing, etc). Shaving is the best way to remove hair between sessions.
- Gently cleanse the area with a mild soap.
How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal treatments work by sending pulses of light to the root of the hair follicle. This causes the hair to fall out at the source, and also minimizes the chances of that particular hair regrowing. Because each hair grows at a different rate, multiple treatments are required to ensure that each hair is eliminated. To learn more about laser, read our blog post here.
Is laser hair removal safe?
Laser technology has been around for years and can be used to remove hair from different areas on your body. ?The question that many people have about this procedure is: "Is laser hair removal safe? When you choose a reputable, sanitary clinic such as CHIC Laser Centre, laser hair removal is a safe procedure. Because our team has such thorough training and, we can confidently say that we provide safe and effective laser hair removal treatments.
What laser hair treatment technology works best for dark skin?
Depending on your skin tone, you'll either be treated using the Alexandrite or the Yag laser. For darker skin, hair removal is most effective with a Yag laser because it penetrates the upper skin layers (where melanin may block the efficacy of the laser) and gets to the root of the hair follicles. Lighter-skinned people will most likely opt for the Alexandrite laser treatments, one that's slightly faster. Both lasers are safe and usually produce best results within 6-8 sessions.
How much does laser hair removal cost?
The price for laser hair removal Montreal depends on the area being treated. The price starts from $40 for small areas and can go up to hundreds of dollars.
Whats is the difference between Alexandrite and Yag lasers?
Each of us has unique skin; therefore, we require precise and differentiated services to remove unwanted hair. Our GentlePro Max system delivers flexible options, without compromising on quality or efficacy. As a dual wavelength laser system, our advanced technology can use one or both of the Alexandrite or Yag lasers to achieve desired results on all skin types.Experts in the field use a numerical system to determine which skin type they're working with: the scale ranges from 1-6, with 1 being the lightest skin tone and 6 being the most pigmented. For safety reasons, certain lasers should not be used on the 3 darkest skin tones, as this can cause burns or scarring. Choosing a professional clinic with experience with all skin types is paramount when deciding on a laser hair removal procedure.Let's start with the Alexandrite laser, which utilizes an Alexandrite crystal to power safe, effective laser technology to stop the hair growth cycle. This laser targets hair follicles with light pulses, causing hair follicles to fall out and minimizing regrowth. After about 6-8 treatments, patients will see a drastic reduction in the amount of unwanted hair! It's safe to use this laser with skin pigment types 1-3. As it sends pulses of light to the root of each hair, the GentlePro Max Alexandrite laser system uses a cooling cryogen gas, eliminating the need for messy creams or gels. The alternative is called a Yag laser: this is the leading technology for use on medium to dark skin types, or numbers 4-6 on the scale. Because of a higher melanin concentration in darker skin, some basic lasers can cause hyperpigmentation, dark spots, or even burns on darker skin. The pros at CHIC Laser Centre are well equipped to assess your unique skin and hair type prior to laser hair removal treatment. The technology in this laser works much the same as the Alexandrite laser, though the wavelengths are able to penetrate the skin a bit deeper, allowing it to successfully bypass the skin's pigmentation to get to the root of each hair follicle. Both of these lasers are considered industry leaders in safety, effectiveness and performance when administered by a trained professional. When working with either laser, the technician will adjust the settings according to your unique skin type, allowing for the safest, most permanent removal of hair without damaging the skin. Selecting a clinic with outstanding professionalism and safety standards is of the utmost importance when considering laser hair removal treatments.
Can I achieve permanent hair reduction with laser?
Laser hair removal is a great solution for permanent hair reduction! Though individual hairs may regrow over time, most clients report at least a 90% reduction in hair growth after 6-8 laser hair removal sessions. If your hair is very coarse or dense, you may wish to revisit our clinic for a follow-up session or two after some time has passed.
Laser versus electrolysis?
Laser hair removal and electrolysis both offer different ways to remove unwanted hair. Electrolysis is a different type of treatment for permanent hair removal. It works by sending electrical pulses to each hair follicle, damaging each hair and preventing regrowth. This differs from laser hair removal, as laser hair treatments use light to zap each follicle. Electrolysis may provide slightly more permanent results, but it requires more time and more sessions when compared to laser. Each Laser hair removal treatment will take only around 15-20 minutes!
How many laser hair removal treatments does it take to achieve permanent hair removal?
Generally, most people book 6-8 sessions at CHIC Laser to remove unwanted hair permanently. Sessions should generally be scheduled 4-6 weeks apart. Laser hair removal is most effective on clients with darker hair, so those folks may not require as many sessions. For anyone with very light hair or more pigmented skin, 6-8 sessions is usually the "sweet spot" for permanent hair reduction. Many other factors can affect the actual number of treatments required including:
- skin type
- Ethnic background/colour of hair and skin. For example, darker or tanned coloured skins usually require more treatments than lighter ones because dark pigmentation absorbs more laser. Overall, the GentleMax Pro offers superior results with less laser hair removal treatment.
What makes the GentleMax Pro a superior technology for laser hair removal?
The Candela GentleMax Pro System is the most popular laser hair removal system and uses a special type of laser called Alexandrite to remove unwanted body hair. The GentleMax Pro is capable of removing hair from many different skin types including dark skin.
Further, the GentleMax Pro laser system is the only one on the market that offers a breakthrough technology called Dynamic Cooling. This system keeps your skin cool during treatment, which allows for greater comfort and better results.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
Depending on the part of the body (and your personal pain tolerance), laser hair removal can be slightly painful. Most clients describe the feeling as a rubber band snapping against the skin. For body parts with thin skin, such as the upper lip, neck and bikini area, you're more likely to experience some discomfort. For areas with thicker skin or more fat deposits (forearms, stomach, buttocks) it's a minimally painful experience.Fortunately, CHIC Laser's state-of-the-art technology utilizes the GentlePro Max system, which is integrating with a cryo-cooling system, providing instant relief from the heat of the laser.
Are there any side effects for laser hair removal?
Aside from some redness, itchiness or irritation of the treated area, side effects are generally mild and resolve themselves within a few days. Cool compresses can be applied to the skin to provide relief. If more serious symptoms appear, or if side effects persist for more than 3 days, contact the doctors at CHIC Laser straight away.
