How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal works by  directing a laser beam at the hair follicles. The laser energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle, which damages the follicle and prevents new hairs from growing. After multiple laser treatments, the hair follicles get damaged and stop producing hair. To learn more about laser, read our blog post here.

Is laser hair removal safe?

You've probably heard of laser hair removal, but is it safe? Laser technology has been around for years and can be used to remove hair from different areas on your body. The question that many people have about this procedure is: "Is laser hair removal safe?" With all the advances in laser technology and research into skin types, we can confidently answer yes! For safe laser hair removal, book your appointment today CHIC Laser in downtown Montreal.

What laser hair treatment technology works best for dark skin?

It is important to understand  the difference between laser hair removal technology for dark skin versus light skin. The two types of laser hair removal: Nd:YAG and Diode. Yag laser offers more wave length allowing the laser to travel deeper into the skin. YAG laser bypasses the melanin in the skin which makes it the safest option for medium to dark skin.Diode laser technology, on the other hand, has a shorter wave length ideal for  light to medium skin tones. Diode laser hair removal is less effective on dark skin because the melanin in the cells absorbs more light than lighter complexions, which makes it harder for diode lasers to deliver enough energy into these deeper layers of skin.

How much does laser hair removal cost?

The price for laser hair removal Montreal depends on the area being treated. The price starts from $40 for small areas and can go up to hundreds of dollars.

Can I achieve permanent hair reduction with laser?

The short answer is YES, permanent hair removal can be achieved. Laser hair removal treatments work by destroying the follicle that's responsible for growing new hairs on your body, which means you'll see results after multiple visits over an extended period of time. In general, you should expect up to 90% permanent hair reduction after 6 to 8 laser hair removal treatments.

Laser hair removal versus electrolysis?

Laser hair removal and electrolysis both offer different ways to remove unwanted hair. The basic difference between the two is that laser treatments use lasers – a specific type of light – while electrolysis involves inserting a needle or probe into each individual hair follicle. However, there are many other differences as well such as cost, time required for treatment , and results. Laser hair removal is quicker, more affordable, less time consuming, provides longer lasting results with fewer treatments compared to electrolysis. Electrolysis can take up to an hour per treatment session depending on the area of the body being treated whereas laser hair removal averages around 15 minutes per session for most areas including face or neck.

How many laser hair removal treatments does it take to achieve permanent hair removal?

Generally speaking it takes on average between six to eight laser treatments for permanent hair removal. That's because hair goes through three stages of growth, so treatments are needed at the right time to target all three phases. Many other factors can affect the actual number of treatments required including:
- skin type
- age
- Ethnic background/colour of hair and skin. For example, darker or tanned coloured skins usually require more treatments than lighter ones because dark pigmentation absorbs more laser. Overall, the GentleMax Pro offers superior results with less laser hair removal treatment.

What makes the GentleMax Pro a superior technology for laser hair removal?

The Candela GentleMax Pro System is the most popular laser hair removal system and uses a special type of laser called Alexandrite to remove unwanted body hair. The GentleMax Pro is capable of  removing hair from many different skin types including dark skin.
Further, the GentleMax Pro laser system is  the only one on the market that offers a breakthrough technology called Dynamic Cooling. This system keeps your skin cool during treatment, which allows for greater comfort and better results.
