What are lip fillers?

Lip fillers, like dermal fillers, are an injectable treatment that can add shape or volume to lips without the need for cosmetic surgery ...

These aesthetic treatments, also known as lip augmentation or lip enhancement, can improve the appearance of thin lips and help restore lost volume to the area. Using hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in the human body, your medical aesthetic professional can inject your upper and lower lips with a small amount of filler. Once these fillers have been injected, you'll notice plumper lips straight away!

How lip fillers work?

Hyaluronic acid fillers can absorb up to 1,000 times their weight in water, so a little really does go a long way! ...

Like dermal filler injections, lip injections can restore lost volume to the lips, making them appear firmer, more voluminous and younger looking. After a quick injection procedure, hyaluronic acid lip fillers bind to water molecules, which will plump the lips, moisturize and add volume for natural looking lips!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.

Who should consider Lip fillers?

A.

Many people consider lip enhancements at any stage of life; some clients want to achieve the perfect pout from a younger age, and some choose lip augmentation treatment to slow down signs of aging. Whatever your preference, choosing CHIC Laser means you'll be working with a team of professionals who can help you achieve YOUR perfect lip shape, not an over-injected or stiff looking face! Our pros have extensive experience working with our clients' natural beauty to simply give a little boost, not to completely restructure the face!

Q.

How much lip filler do I need to use?

A.

Depending on your desired results, you may want to use half, three-quarters, or a full syringe of dermal filler injections. Your healthcare professional will help you decide on how much lip filler is right for you during your first consultation. After that, it's simple to add more to pump up the volume!

Q.

Are lip fillers painful?

A.

Lip fillers are injectable dermal fillers, so the feeling is about the same. The lip area is quite sensitive, so your practitioner may apply a topical numbing cream to your lips before beginning the treatment. Most patients report minimal pain from injectable fillers, since using a local anesthetic cream makes it feels more like a pressure/pinch sensation.

Q.

Are lip fillers vegan?

A.

Yes, a lip injection is vegan. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance  that occurs in the human body. It's responsible for delivering nutrients to the skin and providing hydration. When injected into the lips, lip fillers plump up the lips and add volume. At our Montreal clinic, we use only vegan lip injections. We offer lip filler treatments with Redensity and Revanesse. These are all brands of hyaluronic acid that have been approved by Health Canada for use in cosmetic injectable procedures. If you're considering getting lip fillers, we encourage you to book a consultation with our team of experienced cosmetic surgeons. We will be able to assess your individual needs and recommend the best course of treatment.

Q.

What do I need to do after my treatment?

A.

After your lip filler injections, you'll need to follow a few steps to make sure they settle well:

  1. Stay hydrated
  2. Don't touch! Touching your lips can cause swelling or irritation
  3. An ice pack can be used gently after the treatment to reduce swelling
  4. Avoid drinking alcohol, and try to stay away from strenuous activity for about 48 hours after your treatment.
  5. Stay away from jacuzzis, saunas and steam rooms for a week after getting your lip fillers.
  6. Avoid other treatments for about 2 weeks after your lip injections.
Q.

When will I see results?

A.

The volume can be noticed immediately! You'll likely see some swelling, especially at the injection site, but you'll see the full result of your treatment within 1-2 weeks. Most people notice a change in shape and volume straight away, though the swelling may overshadow the "final look" for a few days.

Q.

Are there any side effects with lip injections?

A.

As with any type of aesthetic medicine, there are some common minor side effects. Mild swelling, bruising and pain at the injection site are all common side effects, but most resolve themselves within a few days. If you're prone to cold sores, tell your doctor before treatment, since there could be a flare up caused by the tiny needle. If any symptoms persist, or the swelling becomes painful, call the CHIC experts straight away.

Q.

How do lip fillers work?

A.

Once injected, the hyaluronic acid in lip fillers absorbs up to 1000 times its weight in water. Each molecule plumps up with H2O, leaving your skin looking voluminous, full and healthy. Over the course of 4-6 months, the hyaluronic acid gradually fades away. Once injected in the the upper lip and lower lip, fillers

Q.

Are lip fillers safe?

A.

Yes, lip fillers are safe and even reversible! Because they utilize natural hyaluronic acid, a substance found in the human body, there is low risk of rejection or allergic reaction. As with all aesthetic treatments, there are some minor side effects to look out for, but most of them will naturally dissipate over the course of a week.

Q.

Fillers + Botox: can they be combined?

A.

Absolutely! Botox is more appropriate for certain areas of the face, such as the forehead lines and crow's feet. A lip filler treatment is the perfect compliment to a Botox treatment: it will enhance the look of your lips while the Botox works on the other muscles around the face. Health Canada doesn't recommend using Botox on the lips directly, but lip fillers work like a charm! Many of our clients trust CHIC Laser to do both of these procedures and are blown away by the results!

Q.

What do I do before my lip filler treatment?

A.
  1. Choose a qualified and experienced doctor or cosmetic surgeon
  2. Discuss your goals and expectations with your Doctor
  3. Avoid blood thinning and over the counter aspirin, Aleve, etc for at least one week prior injection.
Q.

What do I need to know before my lip filler treatment?

A.

Just like with dermal fillers, there are a few suggestions that your doctor will make before going for your lip filler appointment. First, make sure you've thoroughly researched your clinic and the aesthetician who will perform the injections. At CHIC, we have a team of highly trained professionals, ready to answer all of your questions from A to Z! Finally, follow these simple guidelines in the week leading up to your appointment:

  1. Avoid blood thinning medications for at least a week before your procedure.
  2. Stay away from anti-aging products for 2 days before your treatment
  3. No alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment
  4. Inform your doctor about any medications or medical conditions you may have
  5. Arrive at the clinic with a clean face--avoid makeup and creams on the day of your session
