Treats wrinkles, fine lines and stretch marks.

If you’re dreaming of tighter, younger looking skin with a more even tone, microneedling at CHIC Laser Centre in Montreal might be the perfect solution for you! But what is micro needling? Using tiny needles, a microneedling professional makes microscopic punctures in the skin of the treated area, which stimulates the production of collagen and elastin ...

Each of these tiny punctures create micro injuries, triggering the body's natural healing response. What is Collagen induction therapy?

Microneedling, also referred to as collagen induction therapy, is a type of dermatological treatment for all types of skin concerns: wrinkles, acne scars, hair loss, stretch marks, uneven skin tone, and more ...

Collagen is a naturally occurring compound in our skin (the one that gives us that supple, voluminous and bouncy skin feeling) and it starts to fade as we age. This causes skin to look older, with fine lines, wrinkles and uneven tone. When new collagen production is stimulated via micro needles, it rushes to the site of these tiny pricks, causing skin rejuvenation and an improvement in overall skin texture. It may sound a bit creepy to think of "injuring" yourself on purpose; but don't worry, these micro wounds are teeny-tiny, and don't cause much pain when used with a topical numbing cream. The whole point is to get your blood flowing to the puncture site, and to activate your body's natural healing response.

Microneedling treatment areas

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that uses fine needles to create tiny punctures in the skin. This triggers the body's natural healing response, which results in the production of new collagen and elastin ....

Microneedling can be used to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and other types of skin damage. The procedure is safe for all skin types. Microneedling is also said to stimulate collagen production, which can lead to firmer, more youthful-looking skin. Collagen is a protein that plays an essential role in keeping skin looking smooth and plump.

What can be treated with microneedling?

Facial wrinkles

Microneedling is a common treatment to reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the face. Since our collagen and elastin productivity naturally decreases with age, we may start to see fine lines and wrinkles appearing on different parts of the face. (Other factors can have an impact as well, such as smoking, diet and sun exposure.) When a microneedling treatment is performed on the face, collagen and elastin rush to the site of each tiny puncture, helping to repair and heal the skin texture. The result? Smoother, younger looking skin, without the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Acne scars and stretch marks

Whether old or new, acne scars and stretch marks can feel like a frustrating reminder of a painful skin condition! Microneedling is a great solution for scars; the needles pass through the epidermis and reach the dermal layer of skin, allowing regeneration of healthy, new skin from the inside out. Not only can this treatment help smooth out the skin's surface, it can also drastically reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks.
Stretch marks and acne scares are a common problem that many people struggle with. Microneedling or collagen induction therapy is an FDA-approved treatment that reduces the appearance of stretch marks and acne scares without surgery. Micro needling and laser treatments are the most common treatments for skin regeneration. In some cases, you can start seeing results after just one session with minimal downtime or side effects. And it’s affordable – so you don’t have to break the bank for beautiful skin!

Hair loss

Hair loss can be an aggravating source of embarrassment for some folks. If you notice your hair starting to thin or fall out, a microneedling treatment plan might be just what you're looking for! Microneedling, as a treatment for thinning hair, stimulates hair growth by reaching the dermis--the layer of skin under the surface--and activating hair growth.

Sun spots

Reversing sun damage isn't always easy--once your skin has been damaged by sun exposure, it can feel impossible to fix it! Fortunately, the team at CHIC Laser has a solution for you that won't break the bank--microneedling! This treatment can be extremely effective in reducing the appearance of sun spots by stimulating new tissue to grow, therefore lightening sun spots and creating a more even skin tone.

Large pores

Ever look in the mirror and notice your pores looking a little bigger than they used to? This can be caused by many different factors: sun exposure, genetics, age and daily habits. Once pores look enlarged, it can be tricky to get your skin looking smooth and supple once more. But--you guessed it--microneedling can work for that too! By gentle jabbing the skin with microscopic needles, the CHIC Laser dermatology team can help reduce the appearance of pore size by stimulating collagen and elastin production, therefore smoothing out the skin's surface and making pores look remarkably smaller.

Reduced skin elasticity

This is a big one--and it is usually caused by countless environmental and genetic factors. Anyone over age 30 has probably seen a bit of saggy skin here or there, and maybe you've wondered if there's any way to reverse it. Microneedling can be an effective alternative to costly cosmetic surgery--it won't cost and arm and a leg, and can show similar results without the need for invasive lasers or surgery. Skin elasticity is primarily controlled by collagen and elastin, the two naturally occurring substances that make our skin look bouncy and young. Though it's a normal part of aging, many folks prefer to keep their skin looking fresh and young; stimulating collagen and elastin production is the best way to keep wrinkles at bay, and to give skin that youthful, springy quality.

Uneven skin tone

Uneven skin tone is one of the biggest complaints that dermatologists can address. Many different factors can affect skin quality--sun damage, age and daily habits are just a few major determinants. By activating the body's healing properties and production of collagen, a microneedling treatment plan can give skin a drastic makeover and even out skin tones of all types.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.

Are microneedling results permanent?

A.

Though it is a very effective treatment, microneedling results aren't permanent. After your course of treatments (usually 3-6 sessions) you may want to come back for touch-ups every now and then. Some people prefer to keep seeing their derm regularly for these treatments; others just come once per year for a little refresh.

Q.

Can microneedling cause scarring?

A.

Microneedling is actually a way to reduce the appearance of scars, but there are a few warnings to look out for. If you have keloid scars--large, bubble-like scars that results from an overgrowth of scar tissue--you might not be a great candidate for microneedling. As always, the team of pros at CHIC Laser can assist you in figuring out if this procedure is right for you!

Q.

How many sessions do I need?

A.

Typically, 3-6 sessions is the sweet spot for microneedling treatment. Most clients report seeing visible results after their third session, though some notice a difference after just one treatment! Depending on your age and personal skin factors, you may notice results a bit sooner or later than the average. Our recommendation is to see how you feel after your first treatment course, and work with our experts to develop a continuing treatment plan from there.

Q.

What is the process of microneedling like?

A.

At the start of your appointment, a certified professional will apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area. This will reduce any discomfort caused by the tiny needles. Once you're numbed, your CHIC Laser pro will glide a pen-like device over your skin. Working its way in lines over the treatment area, the "pen" dispenses minor pinpricks from microscopic needles as it passes over the skin. You won't feel the collagen production, but you'll know it's working when you see the results after a few sessions!

Q.

What do I do before my treatment?

A.

There are a few important guidelines to follow before your micro needling appointment:

  1. Avoid taking blood thinning medication during the week leading up to your session.
  2. Your doctor will ask you about any medication you're taking: you may need to stop this before your session, as well.
  3. Avoid using products that increase skin sensitivity, such as retinoids or exfoliants. The CHIC Laser team can give you the full rundown on this, as well.
  4. Arrive at the clinic with a clean, make-up and product-free face. If you're having treatment on another area of the body, do not apply creams, lotions or other products on the day of your appointment.
Q.

What happened after microneedling?

A.

When the nurses administered micro needling treatments, the skin was red. But it shouldn't last more than a few hours and you can resume your regular schedule after this minor procedure has wrapped up; just limit sweating or heavy makeup while healing will help keep down any swelling from occurring during downtime! Microneedling is a treatment that uses tiny wounds to start your body’s healing process. The goal of this microrupturing, collagen and elastin are sent into the patch up small injuries in order for it be healed quicker than before! It could take days or weeks depending on how deep they go through skin but once done with all steps there will no longer exist any wrinkles because new cells have replaced them instead leaving you with new better skin.

Q.

What are the side effects of Microneedling?

A.

The most common side effects are mild swelling and sensitivity of the treated area. Since there are technically hundreds of tiny punctures to your skin, some bleeding or redness in the area is perfectly normal. The treated skin may be sensitive for a few days, but this should resolve itself naturally--recovery time is normally less than a week. If you experience minor pain, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever, such as Tylenol. If you experience significant bleeding, bruising or other serious symptoms, contact the doctors at CHIC Laser straight away.

Q.

Is microneedling effective on dark skin?

A.

Yes, microneedling is safe and effective on all skin types. Because the needles pierce the skin at the epidermal layer but do not puncture deeper than the dermis, scarring is unlikely. It's essential that you trust your microneedling professional, though, as mistakes or overly aggressive wand-wielders can cause damage to the skin! At CHIC, we believe less is more--you won't have to worry about our experts being too heavy-handed with the microneedling pen!

Q.

How does the micro needling pen work?

A.

The microneedling pen is a small device that utilizes tiny needles in a way that creates small punctures on your own complexion so it can remodel itself! Think about all those injuries as just one big injury for each individual cell underneath our extraordinary technology—which then allows them healing and produces a rejuvenated look back into shape once more.

Q.

Is it a safe procedure?

A.

Absolutely, but with all aesthetic treatments, there are minor risks involved. The certified professionals at CHIC Laser can give you the entire run-down of risks, but the most important factors are that you tell your practitioner about any medications you're taking, previous allergies or reactions to specific products, and ensuring that you follow all pre- and post-care suggestions from the doc. Choosing a reputable clinic is also paramount, as you need to be able to trust the sanitary measures at your chosen location. Since the microscopic needles actually puncture the skin, you may notice slight bleeding or bruising of the treated area. This is perfectly normal, but it's important to keep the area clean after your treatment to prevent infection or any complications. If you take the proper precautions, microneedling is quite safe for most healthy adults.

Q.

Is skin microneedling painful?

A.

When combined with a topical numbing cream and performed by a certified healthcare professional, the procedure can be slightly uncomfortable, though minimally painful. If your doc (like the experts at CHIC Laser) knows what they're doing, you might not even feel the needles.

Q.

What about after the treatment?

A.

After the treatment, your healthcare provider will likely apply a serum--most likely hyaluronic acid serum-- to the treated area. Because the micro needling service has just opened up lots of microscopic wounds, it can absorb products much faster and more effectively. This is the perfect time for the doc to slather on some extra goodness to really sink into your skin and activate healing from the inside out!Once you leave the clinic, follow these important steps to make sure your procedure settles in properly:

  1. Avoid anti-inflammatory medications: you actually want the inflammation this time--that's your body's natural healing response!
  2. Avoid using ice to combat swelling--again, this is a natural response and is an important part of the rejuvenation process.
  3. Stay out of direct sun for at least 2 weeks after your session. After 24 hours, a sunscreen with SPF 30+ is highly recommended, but it's still best to avoid sun exposure.
  4. Try to let your skin breathe as much as possible. Wait a minimum of 24 hours before applying makeup, engaging in strenuous exercise, or sweating excessively.
Q.

Will microneedling help with hyperpigmentation?

A.

Hyperpigmentation is a condition that causes dark spots or pigmented patches of skin. The cause for hyper pigmentations may be diverse including sun exposure, but one thing they have in common? They can all potentially benefit from microneedling treatment! The beauty procedure involves breaking up the pigment or the dark spots below your surface layer with little suffered wounds and scabs formed as well — which will at least make those areas lighter than others around it thanks to its effectiveness on melanin producing genes within these cells. Regardless of your skin type, microneedling is a Safe Skin Treatment to treat hyperpigmentation.

Q.

Will microneedling tighten skin?

A.

Youthful skin is primarily preserved by collagen and elastin production. This innovative tool can stimulate the targeted area for skin tightening enough so that collagen will be sent into it, helping tightening the skin! With these advancements in technology comes increased safety with better results than ever before.

Q.

What is the cost of microneedling?

A.

The cost of microneedling vary depending on the clinic and the technology being used. The price range for microneedling alone is anywhere between $300 and $500 per area. At CHIC Laser Centre in downtown Montreal, we offer a package price for multiple treatment plan in addition to regular price per session.
