The Newest Skin Care Trend That You Have to Try

Vampire Facial

Reduce the appearance of wrinkles & fine lines

Vampire Facial?! Sounds spooky, right? Well, this newly trending facial treatment isn't quite as freaky as it sounds. Combined with PRP (platelet rich plasma) therapy, this blood-based procedure is turning heads in Hollywood, and for a good reason!

A vampire facial involves drawing a small vial of blood from the patient, then using the platelets from that sample to rejuvenate facial skin. In combination with a microneedling treatment, you’ll get the best of both worlds–stimulating natural collagen healing and rejuvenation, plus the restorative power of PRP. The process may sound creepy, but it's actually pretty non-invasive--and you'll be dying to try it once you see the results!Call us or book an appointment online for a free consultation!

You're using blood?

Yes, but not in the way you might think. Blood is drawn from the patient's arm and placed in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the platelets and the red blood cells ...

The platelet rich plasma is extracted and then injected back into the skin, providing sensational effects on skin quality: it reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, tightens skin, and evens out skin tone and texture. Treatments (such as microneedling alone) can also stimulate collagen formation, but using one's own blood platelets in the procedure gives it an extra boost and helps the body produce growth factors that heal skin concerns from the inside out.

The Science behind PRP Facials

Although it's a recently trending procedure, the technology for a Vampire Facial has actually been around for over 50 years. ...

(That's right, Kim K isn't the inventor of this trend!) Initially used as a way to help patients recover from transplants, this treatment is a natural way to stimulate tissue cells and trigger the body's natural healing processes. After removing a vial of blood from the patient, the dermatologist will place the sample into a centrifuge that reaches high speeds--it's fast enough to separate the blood into three parts: plasma, white blood cells + platelets, and red blood cells. The middle section is then extracted and reintegrated into the body. Through a microneedling treatment, which also stimulates the body’s natural collagen production, channels are created below the epidermis and the platelet-rich plasma is able to access the deepest levels of healing.Applying platelet rich plasma stimulates growth factors, triggers the body's healing response, and encourages collagen formation. All of these combine in a seemingly magical formula to rejuvenate skin and restore a more youthful appearance.

Benefits of the Vampire Facial

Not only can this treatment take years off your appearance, it actually helps you achieve healthier looking skin. First of all, by using your own blood, you minimize any risk of rejection or having an allergic reaction to a product ...

Vampy facials improve the overall texture of skin and reverse the signs of sun damage. Using platelets from the blood allows all the body's natural healing power to work toward improved skin quality. Additionally, this treatment can minimize the look of large pores, negate signs of aging, reduce wrinkles and fine lines, normalize skin tone and even stimulate hair growth. Since this procedure involves microneedling, the effects are even more striking! Though it may take a few sessions of a PRP treatment to see drastic results, you'll be thirsty for more once you've experienced the Dracula-treatment first hand!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.

Why does it sound so creepy?

A.

Vampire facial is just a cutesy name for PRP (Platelet rich plasma) therapy. There's no blood-sucking monster involved, just a safe procedure, completed by a certified professional, that will stimulate collagen formation and have you looking years younger in just a few sessions!

Q.

Is a PRP treatment safe?

A.

Yes, and because you're using blood from your own body, you're very unlikely to have an adverse reaction to the treatment. The treatment must be performed by a certified professional, and you'll want to scope out the clinic beforehand to make sure everything is 100% sanitary. CHIC Laser's modern aesthetic center will certainly charm you by appearance, but more importantly, you'll find yourself feeling safe and well taken care of when you meet our friendly, conscientious and professional staff.

Q.

What do I need to do before my PRP treatment?

A.

To prep for your Vampy Facial, follow these few simple steps:

  1. Avoid blood thinning medication for at least a week before your procedure.
  2. Try to stay out of the sun for 2-3 days before your facial. You want your skin to be as tolerant as possible to reduce possible sensitivity.
  3. Your doctor will ask you about any medication you're taking: you may need to stop this before your session, as well.
  4. Avoid taking blood thinning medication during the week leading up to your session.
Q.

What is the process of microneedling like?

A.

At the start of your appointment, a certified professional will apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area. This will reduce any discomfort caused by the tiny needles. Once you're numbed, your CHIC Laser pro will glide a pen-like device over your skin. Working its way in lines over the treatment area, the "pen" dispenses minor pinpricks from microscopic needles as it passes over the skin. You won't feel the collagen production, but you'll know it's working when you see the results after a few sessions!

Q.

What do I do before my treatment?

A.

There are a few important guidelines to follow before your micro needling appointment:

  1. Avoid blood thinning medication for at least a week before your procedure.
  2. Try to stay out of the sun for 2-3 days before your facial. You want your skin to be as tolerant as possible to reduce possible sensitivity.
  3. On the day of your appointment, don't apply any creams, serums or makeup to your face. Your doc will apply a numbing cream before the treatment, but your skin should be clean and free of any products.
Q.

How do I take care of my skin after a PRP treatment?

A.

You don't have to do much, and recovery time should be relatively short! However, following these guidelines will help reduce any side effects:

  1. Stay out of the sun for as long as possible after your treatment. After a few days, you can protect yourself with SPF 30+, and wear a hat if going outdoors.
  2. Try not to touch your face for at least 6 hours after the treatment. Your skin may be a bit swollen, red or puffy, so it's best to avoid contact with any contaminants.
  3. Avoid strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours, as you don't want to sweat too much and aggravate your skin's sensitivity.
  4. Avoid blood thinning medications for a week after your procedure.
Q.

Does it hurt?

A.

Before the treatment, your practitioner will apply a numbing cream to the area, allowing you to forget about the needles altogether! You may feel a slight pinch or pressure, but if your doctor is a pro (like the CHIC Laser team!) discomfort should be minimal. After the treatment is over, you'll notice a bit of swelling in the area, which could come with some mild soreness. If this happens, don't worry! Your body is doing exactly the right thing--mirco-injuries have been created, after all, and your body's natural healing response has been engaged. Slight soreness and swelling are 100% normal for a few days after your procedure. If symptoms persist, talk to your doc about your concerns.

Q.

Can I get a facial after Injection treatment?

A.

We don't recommend combining a Vampire facial with any other treatments. This is because the skin can be quite sensitive and can very easily absorb any products placed onto it. That’s the whole reason for the use of PRP–it’s absorbed super effectively into the skin after the microneedling aspect of the treatment. But other treatments, such as chemical peels, other facials or treatments that may cause other sensitivities should be avoided.

Q.

Is skin microneedling painful?

A.

When combined with a topical numbing cream and performed by a certified healthcare professional, the procedure can be slightly uncomfortable, though minimally painful. If your doc (like the experts at CHIC Laser) knows what they're doing, you might not even feel the needles.

  1. Avoid taking blood thinning medication during the week leading up to your session.
  2. Your doctor will ask you about any medication you're taking: you may need to stop this before your session, as well.
  3. Avoid using products that increase skin sensitivity, such as retinoids or exfoliants. The CHIC Laser team can give you the full rundown on this, as well.
  4. Arrive at the clinic with a clean, make-up and product-free face. If you're having treatment on another area of the body, do not apply creams, lotions or other products on the day of your appointment.
Q.

What should I expect after the procedure?

A.

There's hardly any downtime associated with a PRP treatment! Most folks are back to doing their normal activities the very same day and recover fully within a few days. You may notice some mild side effects immediately after your treatment, such as:

  1. Swelling
  2. Skin sensitivity
  3. Redness/mild bleeding
  4. Bruising (though this is much more common on the arm where your blood was drawn!)

These symptoms normally go away naturally within a few days; if they persist, call your doctor right away.

Q.

How long does a Vampire Facial take?

A.

From start to finish (including drawing and spinning blood, microneedling and soothing) it only takes about an hour. Your CHIC Laser profession will walk you through the steps during your consultation, but of course you can always ask questions during your procedure/appointment as well. As always, our friendly team is here to help!
