What are Neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators, commonly known by brand names such as Botox® and Dysport®, are injectable products used to temporarily reduce muscle activity in targeted areas. They may help soften the appearance of expression lines, depending on the patient’s anatomy, treatment plan, and response. ...

Treatment is performed with a fine needle and is less invasive than surgery. Your provider will explain the procedure, expected onset, duration, possible side effects, and follow-up recommendations before proceeding.

Treatment areas?

Forehead wrinkle

Forehead lines are the most frequently treated facial wrinkles. Approved for use on the forehead area by the FDA in 2002, Botox® works by temporarily restricting the movement of the muscles responsible for expression lines. These muscles are engaged with most facial expressions: shock, joy, anger and confusion; therefore, this is often one of the first areas of the face to show wrinkles.

Frown lines caused by eyebrows movement

Frown lines, also referred to as "11 lines" are the vertical lines that appear between the eyebrows. As we age, collagen and elastin production decrease, allowing wrinkles to set in over time. Because this area is responsible for making expressions such as surprise, worry, confusion and anger, it tends to get a pretty good workout! Injecting this area with the botulinum toxin can relax the look of these lines, providing a more youthful appearance.

Fine lines around crow's feet

Neuromodulator injection can help you to rid yourself of those pesky wrinkles around your eyes. Try squinting your eyes in the mirror--do you notice any little lines appearing around the corner of your eyes? Those are commonly referred to as Crow's feet, becoming more apparent with age.

Teeth grinding /clench jaw

Did you know you can use Neuromodulator injection to reduce teeth grinding? Neuromodulator isn't only for wrinkles; it can also be used to treat other medical conditions! For those who have issues with teeth grinding or jaw clenching (which can sometimes lead to migraine headaches). Because of their efficacy as muscle relaxants, Neuromodulators are often used to treat other issues as well. to learn more information, click here: Neuromodulator for TMJ

Botox® for sweating

By blocking the neurotransmitter that activates sweat glands, Neuromodulator injections have been known to reduce underarm sweating by up to 90%! If you've ever wondered if you have overactive sweat glands, book a consultation with us!

Neck bands

One of the first giveaways of our age can sometimes be the neck. Neck bands, or lines around the neck in any direction, become more apparent with age. Since the skin on our necks is so thin, it's one of the first to lose its collagen and elastin, and one of the first to show signs of aging. If you're not entirely thrilled with the bands starting to appear on or around your neck, an injectable solution could be just what you need to look and feel confident.

Frequently Asked Questions

Considering CHIC Laser for the Neuromodulator injections in Montreal? Here are some of the questions you might have before booking your first appointment.

Q.

How is Botox® Different from Dysport®?

A.

Botox® and Dysport® are two different brands of very similar products. They differ slightly in their chemical makeup, and Dysport® contains a protein found in cow's milk, so those who are intolerant to lactose should avoid Dysport®. Botox® and Dysport® are comparable in terms of efficacy, though Dysport® may require a slightly higher dose of the product, as it is less potent than Botox®. They are, however, used to treat the same areas and have a similar safety profile when administered by a qualified professional.

Q.

When will I see results?

A.

Neuromodulator injections results are generally visible within 4-6 days of treatment, while Dysport® has a slightly faster onset time. You'll see full facial rejuvenation results within approximately two weeks after receiving.

Q.

What Happens in a Botox® Appointment?

A.

When you arrive at the clinic for a Botox® or Dysport® treatment, the CHIC Laser team will walk you through the procedure. The doctor may apply a topical numbing cream to the area before performing the injections. As with all cosmetic procedures at CHIC Laser Centre, our experts will be with you every step of the way to reassure you and answer any questions you may have.

Q.

After care: What do I do after my Botox® injection?

A.

It is essential to follow the doctor's recommendations after your appointment to ensure your treatment is safe and effective. Here are a few things to avoid immediately after the procedure:

  1. Avoid rubbing the treatment areas: this can cause inflammation.
  2. Stay out of the sun for at least 48 hours.
  3. Avoid strenuous exercise for at least 48 hours.
  4. Avoid saunas, steam rooms, jacuzzis and other extremely humid environments for 48 hours.
  5. Wait at least 2 weeks before any other facial treatments/procedures.
Q.

What is the difference between Botox®
and most Hyaluronic fillers?

A.

Botox® temporarily paralyzes muscles therefore, it prevents the formation or increase of dynamic wrinkles such as smile lines, and frown wrinkles - indirectly, it helps smooth lines. While dermal fillers, on the other hand, are substances injected into the skin to restore volume that improves and corrects the appearance of wrinkles. Put simply; they are wrinkle fillers- they replace lost volume, and they work on lines, static wrinkles and dynamic wrinkles. The treatment plan is different; they can be used in combination or independently.

Q.

How Botox® works on the forehead?

A.

Botulinum toxin temporarily decreases the activity of the muscles located near the injection site. The forehead becomes temporarily less active, preventing the creation of the big forehead wrinkles caused by the year of repetitive facial expressions on top of our natural aging process. Since we cannot slow down time, we can only help reduce its impact on our features. To obtain the best results for this area we recommend that patients treat the upper face section, including the glabella- between brows to reduce big frown lines as well. Know that it is an option, not mandatory.

Q.

Who can administer Botox® injection in Quebec?

A.

Legally anyone who wishes to receive cosmetic injections requires a prescription, therefore, need to be evaluated by a doctor to ensure the patient's safety, determine that they qualify for injectables and eliminate the risk of adverse reactions. Many people do not qualify for a neuromodulators procedure such as people that suffer from conditions such as muscle weakness, myasthenia gravis and certain skin conditions for example. The Canadian government state that only cosmetic trained health care worker can administer treatment, such as a doctor, nurses, auxiliary nurses. Be aware when seeking to be treated; there are many structures the eye can't see beyond your skin, such as nerves, arteries, veins, glands, and many more find a team that possesses the knowledge. Be careful and ask for credentials when seeking treatment.

Q.

Is Neuromodulator safe?

A.

Neuromodulator injections are a safe, non-surgical way to maintain a youthful appearance. The botulinum toxin has been approved by Health Canada for a variety of uses. The most important aspect when considering the safety of cosmetic Botox® is the practitioner: there's nothing worse than heavy-handed Botox®! Book a consultation with our physician to learn more about our safety protocols.

Q.

What to do before your appointment

A.

Before your appointment, there are a few things that you should avoid. During your initial consultation, your doctor will inform you about the best practices for preparing for Botox® injections. Make sure you tell your doctor about any prescription medication you are taking, especially if you are taking muscle relaxants, as it could impact your treatment. Blood-thinning drugs such as Advil or aspirin should be avoided for at least ten days before your treatment. Additionally, it's best to stay out of the sun for at least 24 hours before your appointment and to arrive at the clinic with a clean, make-up-free face. Finally, avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment. Anything that can thin your blood is best to avoid, as it can cause unwanted side effects.

Q.

Side effects of Botox®

A.

Most of the time, these side effects resolve themselves within a few days, but you can use a cold compress or Tylenol (NOT aspirin or Advil!) to relieve any discomfort. Headaches and pain may occur as well, but if you experience any drastic side effects, contact the team at CHIC Laser right away.
